Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and, since the early eighties, has produced a large number of drawings and other works on paper and plastic as well as short videos.
All her works are permeated by a distinctly feminist erotic tone which merges with the fetishism of machines. She explores the relationship between art, science, politics and social issues. For years she worked in the environment of Artificial Intelligence Lab in Brussels where they study and recreate the human brain functions. There she investigated accessible area of the unconscious and she placed inside a resurgent tradition in which scientists and artists collaborate. The interior spaces usually serve as scenarios for her drawings and collages whereupon futuristic dream representations hesitating between the human and the industrial are developed.
