That Belgian art is hot has been known for a while now in the international art world. Even Havana’s people could attest to that with their own eyes, as the exhibition The Importance of Being… just opened there in the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. Uniting 40 world-class artists including Michaël Borremans, Wim Delvoye, Ann Veronica Janssens and Michel François, the show will afterwards travel to Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Our point man on the field, Sam Steverlynck, flew over for the opening together with a dozen or so artists to capture the mood on the ground with one of our office throwaway camera. Think bucket-loads of good art, rivers of mojito’s and the occasional artistic squabble, settled with a fistfight. Papa Hemmingway would surely have been proud.
