°1969, Turnhout, Belgium. Lives and works in Brussels, Belgium.
Hans Op de Beeck produces large installations, sculptures, films, drawings, paintings, photographs and texts. His work is a reflection of our complex society and universal questions of meaning and mortality that resonate within it. His aim is to create a form of visual fiction that causes a moment of awe and silence.
In the last fifteen years, Op de Beeck has made numerous “sensory” monumental installations representing what he describes as “visual fictions” touch deserted spaces as an empty stage for the viewer scroll, carved havens for introspection. “Staging Silence II” refers to the fine line between fiction and reality by creating an estrangement in the viewer through changing the decor of the scene, thus allowing for possible stories, evocative visual propositions offered to the spectator.
